In the future, there will be many large technology corporations entering the Vietnamese market. What do universities and colleges have to prepare for students to be able to meet the needs of these businesses?

Opportunities for thousands of young workers

Mr. Nguyen Chi Truong, Director of the Department of Vocational Skills, General Department of Vocational Education, said that when large technology corporations decide to invest in Vietnam, establish factories to manufacture and assemble high-tech equipment, they will create thousands of jobs for young workers in fields such as electricity, materials, chemistry, information technology, and mechanics.
“If Vietnamese workers cannot meet their need, they will only invest in manufacturing or assembling components and parts that require simple skills and low value; with the more advanced components with higher value, complex skill requirements, and high skill levels, they will look for other countries that meet a higher level in the value chain to invest and manufacture.
This is also a challenge for Vietnamese human resources ”, Mr. Truong said.

Mr. Khuc Trung Kien, a software specialist working in Hanoi, former Director of Fast Track SE programmer training program, also commented: “Big technology corporations will bring to Vietnam many benefits, jobs and especially the opportunity to access modern production lines and technology with strict quality standards. The quality and quantity of human resources are very important and decisive for large corporations to choose Vietnam. Without good preparation, perhaps Vietnamese workers are allowed to participate only in the parts with the lowest levels ”.
According to Mr. Kien, before that, corporations like Intel to enter Vietnam needed thousands of human resources at universities, colleges, intermediate and high school for positions such as production technicians level 1,2, assembly, inspection, product, productivity, quality control, system and equipment installation management, industrial management – labor safety, production supervision, information technology engineers … with a very strict recruitment process. Samsung also recruits a large number of people and up to now the number of Vietnamese people working for this group is hundreds of thousands.

Creative thinking and adaptive skills to new technology

Dr. Hoang Ngoc Vinh, former Director of the Professional High School Department, Ministry of Education and Training, said that universities and colleges wanting their students to have job opportunities at large technology corporations, need well professional, skills, thinking, and attitudes preparation for learners. “They require a lot of skills and attitudes. Working on production line employees are required to have a high discipline on time and responsibility when performing tasks. To do so, you must have team spirit, teamwork skills, respect the working regulations of the factory. A bit of negligence can cause errors in the entire assembly conveyor system or affect products’ quality. It is even more difficult for large technology corporations to accept unprofessional and arbitrary attitudes, even with the most common jobs,” noted Mr. Vinh.
